Quick warning: Since it took me almost a year to wrap up all my posts about Istanbul and Santorini, I'm avoiding all pre-meditated laziness and dropping all the stories and pictures from Mexico in one blog post. Enjoy!
It's probably common sense to expect to have the grandest of times when traveling with some of your best friends, but I (and my mother) never said I had any type of sense. All of my previous trips abroad had been for internships, work or on a lark, when I just had to get away. Cancun however was with three of my very good friends. And it was such an ultimate blast, that I suggested Rio for NYE2016, and it looks like it's going to happen!
Also, I was in Cancun for almost 2 weeks, with the first half with friends (including Cancun, Tulum and Isla Mujeres), 3 days for a work event (in Playa del Carmen), and then ending in 2 days with my coworkers (in Playa del Carmen, Cozumel and Cancun). Hence leading to my plan to start the Cancun office of my firm.
We start off with New Years Eve...a night resplendent with laughter, overpriced taxis, multiple wardrobe mishaps (Thank God for low lighting in clubs), the struggle to find good selfie lighting, some absolutely delicious tacos from the Las Quekas stand, and then we woke up on the first day of 2015 to this:
We did our best to keep it up in the following days, with beach days like this...
P.S. We stayed at the Westin Resort & Spa. It's a bit far from the clubbing action, but with a great breakfast and happy hour, and wonderful beach/pools, we weren't complaining.
And little hunger-fueled excursions into downtown Cancun in Parque las Palapas (I absolutely recommend!), which had the best Churros and random tasty eats I had that entire trip. It was so good that I had to visit it a week later with co-workers. Also peep the little children in their mini motocars, they were so cute thinking they were actually driving (the parents were controlling the cars via a remote control).
And a wonderful trip to Tulum like...
P.S. We took the affordable & pretty nice ADO bus from Cancun to Tulum...we were in Tulum till ~7pm and would have had to wait till almost 10pm for the next bus, so we left a little earlier. But we still got to see the ruins, and I heartily recommend making the walk down to the beach and finding a wonderful restaurant with a swing set. Also be prepared for the topless sunbathers.
And a day well spent in Isla Mujeres with snorkeling + some beach time.
After this, the girls left, and I made my way to Playa del Carmen for a work function. We were pretty much cloistered in the Paradisius resort, doing lots of seminars and networking and drinking.
Then I made my way back to Cancun via Cozumel with some co-workers. All in all, it was a pretty amazing trip, and a kick-ass start to the year. I'll refrain from posting the Cozumel photos...let's just say it involved some hilarious (attempts at) snorkeling with the co-workers. And all too soon it was back to the airport and a flight back to O'Hare. I can't wait for Rio de Janeiro!
